Volunteerism and Community Service

back to main Summer Camp page

Giving and receiving: making things happen at camp. NCDC is managed and run by volunteers, with only a few paid service providers. Part of our culture is to draw on the capabilities, energies, and skills of our campers to make the event happen. Working together builds community, helps keep costs down, and helps us get to know each other better. Every camper is expected to perform community service in proportion to their time at camp, generally an average of an hour per day. Most jobs involving working in the kitchen, and you'll find that working with our cooks is a learning experience and a real treat!

There are many other ways to contribute to the camp, both big and small, such as:

  • Add your colors to the camp mural
  • Play with a kid or teenager who wants company
  • Organize or contribute to a camper-led activity
  • Participate in one of the performance events
  • Offer rides to people in your area who might want to carpool
  • Organize a guerilla performance to surprise campers before dinner
  • Invite some friends or family who have never danced before!

Every person has treasures to give. What would make your Dance Camp experience great? What can you do to help create it? What do you have to contribute that would make someone else's experience great? It's just that simple.
